final girls
NOT SO NICE! are proud to present a brand new Scratch Night performance designed to showcase local theatre makers in Edinburgh. The stimulus of the project is the 'final girl' stereotype; the last character left alive to confront the killer. We have chosen to tackle this subject due to the typical presentation of the 'final girl' within the horror genre. She often has these characteristics: virginal qualities, aversions to sex, no drinks or drugs etc. In other words, she is the patriarchy's version of what a women should be. Due to this, she is able to succeed over the killer. We asked six playwrights to creatively alter the narrative of the 'final girl' in a way that combats the stereotypes.
