ABout Us
Founded by Artistic Directors Matthew Attwood and Grace Baker, Not So Nice! Theatre Company was established from the desire to create performances that inspire, educate and initiate discussion surrounding topics that society may shy away from or could be considered as “taboo”.
During Not So Nice!’s founding in June 2020, we have developed multiple online and live projects featuring original monologues, poetry, a radio play and an immersive murder mystery play titled ‘Til Death Do Us Part!’. In August 2021, Not So Nice! had their first production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in collaboration with Blue McElroy’s Sparkle Sarcasm, entitled ‘Smile - Like You're Happy’. Other Fringe shows include: Kira Mason's 'Tales of Vomit, Trash and Broken Glass' (2022), Blue McElroy's 'A Bike Called Lizzie' (2023), and Kira Mason's 'Graveyard of the Outcast Dead' (2023).
In 2022, Not So Nice! worked with LGBT Health Scotland to provide a series of workshops for the LGBT+ community. Following on from this, in 2023 'Pride in a Play' was performed; a scratch night dedicated to showcase emerging playwrights, actors and directors.
Our Creatively Learning sector has been creating a new sector of Not So Nice! entitled Little Purple Dots; dedicated to creating educational theatre for young people. To launch this, Not So Nice! collaborated with JoJo Maman Bébé to deliver storytelling workshops for 3-6 year olds during the Edinburgh Fringe 2023.
